When Officer Keith Perry responded to a routine call at a local Walmart he had his first encounter with a homeless woman whose story immediately brought sympathy. When the Seekonk Police Department in Massachusetts received a call regarding a woman who had fainted in Walmart Officers Keith Perry and Adam Laprade were called to assist at the scene. It was there Perry first encountered the homeless woman after a report that she had fainted inside the store. The woman was visibly disheveled and upon interviewing her Perry learned she was hungry and hadn’t eaten causing her to faint.
Officer Perry gave a new meaning to public service when he decided to take matters into his own hands to help this homeless woman. Officer Perry was aware of a pending snow storm scheduled to hit the area and he arranged for the woman to stay at a hotel in the area, and in addition he bought her food. Not only did Officer Perry buy her dinner, but he also bought her drinks and snacks she could have to get buy when she got hungry again.
Thanks to Officer Perry the homeless woman had a warm meal and was safe during the snow storm. While many were impressed with Officer Perry’s help and kindness toward the homeless woman those who know him and work with him were not surprised. In fact, many commented that he his known in the department for his kindness and generosity toward others. One primary spokesman for Officer Perry from the department where he works was Lt David Dyson, who praised Officer Perry for his efforts.
“This is just typical of Keith Perry,” Dyson told HuffPost. “Everyone said he did a great job, and I agree!” Officer Perry’s act of kindness did not go unnoticed. It was filmed by someone who witnessed his act of kindness and later shared on the local police department’s web page. Shortly following that the video was shared by viewers all over the internet causing the footage to go viral. Officer Perry was recognized by his colleagues and community. He left and example for others and demonstrated that there are still good people in the world who will go out of their way to lend a hand and do what they can when they see a person in dire need.
